[identity profile] disabfic.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] numb3rsficfind
Hi everyone. I've just joined. My name's Cate and I run the website Disability_fanfic. Which, if you don't know, it lists all fanfic I know of (in any fandom) in which a main character had or acquires a disability.

I'm not sure whether this is allowed in this community, so if not then sorry and obviously ignore/delete it. I am looking for recommendations of stories that people have enjoyed that I don't yet have listed on my site (if you can't be bothered checking the site, just rec anyway) which features disability as a major theme.

Thanks in advance for any help

Cate.

(Cross posted to a couple of places. If you get this more than once then sorry)

Hi Cate! I just read this and two in particular for the Numb3rs fandom hopped into my brain:

'Skewed' by sammac on fanfiction dot net (with its sequel 'Relative Motion') - deals with first one, then both of the Eppes brothers being blinded.

And at numb3rs dot org - also known as FanRush forums - in the fanfiction section there's one called 'Drastic Measures' by rittenden. Don Eppes is paralyzed from the waist down. It wasn't bad, either.

There are more, I'm sure, but those are what I could come up with on short notice. Hope it helps you.

First off, fair or not, you might get a better response by linking to your LJ as your archive and not the geocities site. Just a suggestion.

Second, not sure if your timing is purposeful, but you did notice the post before yours was requesting info on a mute fic right?

Third, check with [livejournal.com profile] dollydani. She has a series with a deaf OFC (Cassandra - a sister to Colby) that might work for you. It might be listed on her fic journal which is "lj user="pethronindilwen">.

Fourth, for my money there's no better Numb3rs disability fic than by Sammac, who writes Charlie then Don as blind to amazing effect. Her stories are at fanfiction.net. Skewed is first and complete and Relative Motion is still in progress.

I don't have any disability fic (I tend to just maim and kill but I do let the injured heal eventually) but good luck in locating more.

Ha! I should have *read* yours first. When I started typing mine up there were no comments on this thread. And then I got distracted. It happens... /sigh/

Yeah, hard to beat Skewed (especially the beginning which slays me), but I really do like Dira's Dumbstruck as well.

Cate -

I found another one you might be interested in. It's in the fanfic forum at numb3rs.org and it's called 'Miscommunication' by 3rdgal. (I think it's on ff.net, too.) Don develops Broca's aphasia due to a severe head injury. It's pretty good.

Yay found it...

When I read your request, the first story I could think of was 'Permanent Consequences' by FraidyCat.

It deals with Charlie in a wheelchair, Don blaming himself for it and just getting depressed by that. Later on, he goes to try to understand his brother's new life. It's really a wonderful story which everyone should know!
