Looking for a Don hurt

I am looking for a story...it's an older one with Terry Laek.  Don and Terry are chasing a bad guy.  Don gets taken down by the bad guy wielding a crow bar.  Don is hurt more than even he is aware of.  Because of he bust he misses Charlie's tv taping and dinner.  Don leaves a message at the resturaunt saying that he is sorry but will have to miss dinner but Charlie doesn't get the message because the waitress goes home with a migraine.  Don ends up being rushed to the hospital. Also in the story is jacaranda flowers on Don's car and his pillow in the hospital.  Sound familiar to anyone?  Please help!
