LFS: h/c Charlie has a stroke

I'm looking for a story that I'm fairly certain was on FF.net & is probably by an author I should remember. I searched the likely tags here but had no luck.

In the story Charlie has a stroke--I don't know if it was precipitated by an injury or not. Some of Alan's narration from the story itself about how he can understand outliving a wife, but not watching his youngest child try to recover from a stroke. And there's some about how his son is healthy, eats well etc.

I do not know if the story is gen or slash as I read both.
